Founded in 1890, the School of Nursing was the first nursing program in the Southwest and one of the first schools in the U.S. to be affiliated with a university in 1896. The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing at Galveston invites applications and nominations for full time faculty. As a component of the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), the school of nursing offers academic programs at the baccalaureate (traditional, accelerated, and RN-BSN), Masters (Family, Adult/Geriatric, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Leadership, Nurse Educator) and Doctoral Programs (DNP and PhD in collaboration with the Graduate School). The school of nursing is proud of its excellent academic programs, strong clinical environment, modern classrooms, as well as, its innovative use of distance education and simulation laboratories,. Specific Job Related Duties

Collaborates with faculty & students to facilitate undergraduate & graduate academic counseling program.

Establishes clear procedures to assist faculty & students with regard to indications for and referral to academic counseling.

Provides individual & group sessions related to study skills, test-taking strategies, and time management.

Assesses students for nonacademic stressors that may have an impact upon academic progress.

Refers students to campus resources as indicated.

Maintains accurate records related to academic counseling.

Consults with faculty regarding improvements in the advising program.

Assists in the development and facilitation of a review program to prepare participants for board exams.

Collaborates with faculty to determine best practices to ensure students success.

Updates and maintains academic counseling web pages and announcements.

At the Instructor level the expectations are to:

Demonstrates skill as a academic counselor. Serves as a role model for students Collaborates with nursing colleagues and other disciplines in the educational setting to provide appropriate learning experiences for students.Fosters an environment that is conducive to learning. Effectively uses teaching methodologies. Documents and evaluates student performance using approved course records and tools. Performs the role of Academic Counselor to students.Contributes to nursing through the scholarly publications and presentations.Participates in local and state professional organizations. Participates in continuing education programs for professional development. Attends scheduled meetings of the Faculty Assembly, Town Meetings, and Special Meetings of the faculty as called by the Dean or Chair of the Faculty Assembly. Meets all UTMB compliance-training requirements within posted deadlines.

At the Assistant Professor level demonstrates all the qualities as the Instructor level plus the following additional requirements:

Demonstrate competence in classroom and clinical teaching using effective teaching methodologies. Participate in course design, development, implementation, and evaluation to provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Demonstrate competence and leadership within a defined area of nursing practice. Perform the role of Academic Counselor to students. Disseminate scholarly work in professional publications/presentation at local or state meetings. Participate on a minimum of one School of Nursing Committee and one UTMB Committee each year. Maintain academic excellence in education, practice and/or research through participation in continuing education programs.
